Desert dry sarcasm, I thiiiiink.
This guy, this guy gets it!
Was it? I don’t know. Let’s see how they respond.
Desert dry? I thought it was dripping.
Kind of hard to tell with the massive wave of trolls on the BBS these past few months. Since there have been posters who would seriously say something like that, it can be hard to separate new posters making snarky remarks and assholes gleefully reminding us that they are the only people whose lives matter, that the rest of us are scum not worth licking their boots.
It’s kind of shitty in that environment to drop in, make an ambiguous statement like that, into a pretty well established community, and expect not to be looked at critically. It’s much more respectful to maybe come in and make a serious effort to contribute, rather than come in, leave an ambiguous comment that can be read in multiple ways, and then scurry off.
The reference to cows and slaughterhouses put it in the sarcasm column for me, but it is so annoyingly difficult RIGHT NOW to tell sometimes.
Looking at their one previous comment, which was serious and can be read as pro-obamacare, I also think it’s sarcasm.
It’s heart warming to see you finally recognise the utter incoherence at the heart of the gun nuts arguments. And just in time for the holidays, too. Happy Holidays!
I think we’re losing track of what’s important here- UHS is having to waste valuable resources defending against onerous regulation!

Which just makes the military’s support for Republicans in general (and Drumpf in particular) all the more baffling.
Mind you, the same thing happened here. About two decades ago the National Party offered everyone in the army a swiss army knife as an election bribe. Ever since they’ve been able to rely on the military’s vote, which is deeply, deeply embarrassing.
This bit is still making me giggle …
(“Police” here being a proxy for the gun nut elephants)
Trump already has someone bester. Dr. Tom Price – Tea Partier from Georgia and loyal Trumpateer. Dr. Price has a plan.
Start by totally repealing PPACA and parts of HIPAA, then add the good stuff:
- meager tax credits to offset insurance premiums (sorry, un- and under-employed!)
- health savings accounts (sorry, at least half of the population!)
- pre-existing-condition folks can’t be denied coverage…unless they haven’t had insurance for 18 continuous prior months, in which case they can be denied for the next 18 months (sorry, really sick and terminal people!)
- tax penalties for companies that claim more than $8,000 deduction for single employee premiums (sorry, Do-Gooders!)
- and Fedbucks to fund state-based high-risk pools (::big breath:: sorry, sick people in the 35 states that have already tried pools and they didn’t work out even with higher-than-norm premiums, 6-12-month exclusions on pre-existing conditions, annual and lifetime limits, and higher-than-norm deductibles…despite only covering a small fraction of the people who needed such coverage – we’re sure it will work out this time!)
Oops, almost forgot – Price wants to privatize Medicare!
I’ll let the AMA summarize: “His service as a physician, state legislator and member of the U.S. Congress provides a depth of experience to lead HHS. Dr. Price has been a leader in the development of health policies to advance patient choice and market-based solutions as well as reduce excessive regulatory burdens that diminish time devoted to patient care and increase costs.” [AMA endorsement of Price, Nov. 29]
(Yeah – that last bit was my attempt at being “wry” when, actually, we’re all doomed.)
It would break Kafka’s heart to see sh1t like this.
I feel your pain. I am incredibly fortunate to work in an acute care hospital with an inpt behavioral health unit staffed by good people. What is happening elsewhere is beyond the pale and sickens me. Sorry that it drove you out of nursing, but to be honest, I’m ready to be done with it too.
Everything is a battle and I’m weary of the war.
I am envious of your sarcastic abilities.
That said, this is a perfect example of why health care should be provided by the government: if profit is the main impetus for health care then all sorts of morally objectionable policies can be followed as long as the shareholders get theirs. (See: Martin Shkreli.)
You cannot serve morals and Mammon both.
Clearly using Lucifer-brand hydrometers; their thermometers also had difficulties distinguishing between extreme heat and extreme cold.
Thanks! I’ve been in training for the last five months guiding my folks through the healthcare system during my dad’s terminal spiral. After all the profit grubbing, immoral behavior, and lack of human decency I’m about 2% respect, 98% vitriol towards the entire industry. That and a family member in and out of facilities their whole life with schizophrenia, well, it starts to come naturally!
I’m honestly shocked the AMA accepted Price so easily just because he is a physician and little to no other reason. Fortunately, others have a few issues and want to bring them to the attention of the government before he is confirmed.
EDIT
Also, there is one Dr Price fan in the comment section that sums up the attitude of Trump supporters on any matter quite well (he also is the only one to take up a moniker not based on their name):
Nonsense! Free market solves all problems! All of them! ALL OF THEM! PERFECTLY! PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN!
Why, don’t you know that if it was done by filthy socialists you’d have overcrowding and substandard care! While now, in the Glorious Free Market you have, uh…
…LOOK! BEHIND YOU! A THREE-HEADED MONKEY!
