Is this where I confess that I’ve become a regular three times, but I’ve never changed the lounge title?

Is this where I confess that despite all the books I read for English lit, it wasn’t until Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell that I noticed there is no period after the abbreviated titles for people in British Isles publications? It took a book title larger than 24pt to call this to my attention.

Brits don’t use a period if the last letter in the abbreviation is the last letter of the full word.

As they say: two countries separated by a common language!

(I’m surprised to hear that Canadians don’t follow the British style.)

Canadian spelling of the English language combines British and American conventions. We are even contaminating the Western American accents with our Vowel Shifts.

Is this where I confess that I didn’t know that

Hmm. Prof? Rev? Maybe I’d put a full stop after those (but never a period ;)). Not sure I was ever formally taught that though.

I was debating whether or not to use “full stop” but figured the audience was mostly in the U.S. so that would just confuse them!!

I was taught at some point in school that I shouldn’t put a full stop after Mrs because it’s not actually an abbreviation; it’s not short for the written-out “Missus”. And then I noticed that the British books I was reading never used them, so I started avoiding them in general.

Ah yes, the age old option of … I’m not quite sure how to spell that/punctuate that/properly use that so let me rewrite this paragraph so I don’t have to cross that grammatical bridge.

Is this where I confess I’m glad for crappy spellcheck as a go to excuse on why I spelled something wrong?

Is this where I confess that after seven years I just today learned I’m using Twitter for the wrong purpose/reason? And that it may be that I’ve had down days before without wanting to delete my seven-year history of tweets, but this is the first day I’m tempted to wipe the slate clean?

Is this where I confess that I never imagined that there was a right way to use the twitters?

I confess I never imagined there was a right way to use Facebook. I expect if I were paid to exert some social media responsibility for a corporate entity I could come up with some ways. I lost a follower and checked and rechecked my timeline for any bigotry or idiocy or doxxing I may’ve done to inspire the fellow to unfollow, didn’t find any, and that’s how I learned I was doing Twitter wrong.

Is this where I confess that I couldn’t care less how many people follow me on Twitter, I almost never follow back and consequently have a very low number, most of which are spam or promotional accounts?

My rule, unstated for the last five months, is that I don’t follow back accounts that don’t engage with me first. I’m going to act like my reciprocating followers who haven’t engaged with me over all these years are not real people with real feelings and thus won’t care when I unfollow them.

Nothing weird or stalkery intended. I got respect for people that admit mistakes and I was here anyway. It’s been a quiet morning

Is this where I confess that when I first heard about Twitter, I gave it a “not even once”?

Twitter is a huge help to me on a daily basis. Not only is it a far better and quicker news source than Google or any other newsreader, it’s an excellent way for me to message and stay in touch with friends and family, far better than Facebook. Especially now that you can direct-message people with no character limit, it’s a great replacement for AIM or the other instant-messengers. It’s a real shame that the folks in charge are doing such a lousy job running it and have let bullies run rampant; its utility is terrific.

I think a lot of people only hear about its misuse and the bullying going on there and assume the worst and never bother with it. But, personally, I’ve never used Pinterest and assume it’s awful.

Is this where I confess that I actually kind of like Quora? There’s plenty of evidence for Sturgeon’s Law, but I’ve found some good people and interesting perspectives. I also have a laugh at some of the questions.

I’m sure he’ll do well, since he’s a big fan of “intelligence”.
