Island forms off Cape Hatteras in North Carolina

It could get really interesting this fall. Cape Point is a mid-Atlantic surf angler’s paradise every autumn, with fishing-customized 4WD pickups lined up side by side, and grizzled fishermen standing shoulder to shoulder, casting for migrating trophy bluefish that come within reach of shore there. The fish will not be coming through that little channel, and the trucks will not be able to cross it … and the park service and Dare Co. are already warning people not to wade out to the bar, cause they’re getting tired of rescuing them when the tide comes in.

Sand comes and sand goes, mostly the latter, last few centuries… The first hurricane could fill in the channel or haul the whole mess away.

I was introduced to ‘Darkest of the Hillside Thickets’ just last week!
