I think he’s going to nail it. His other comic-book films show that Gunn has some range as a director inside the oeuvre, and along with his love of the character and art form as a whole, I am hopeful that this will be a Superman for today and the future.
FWIW, I enjoyed Superman Returns and think they squandered a great chance to pick up the story years ago, but the MCU / cinematic universe wasn’t a thing yet and Warner Bros can hardly be seen as visionaries.
