Josie Cotton released a new album more than 30 years after it was recorded

Cool story. I’m pretty impressed that she’s a survivor in a rough industry who’s managed to reinvent herself. I remember when “Johnny Are You Queer” was released. My roommate had the 7" single on pink vinyl. It was considered slightly scandalous back in 1983. I recall people talking about how, if you played it at 33rpm instead of 45rpm it sounded like a man singing it. Oh dear!

“Johnny Are you Queer” has an interesting history. LA punk group Fear recorded a demo version called “Fetch Me One More Beer” (NSFW) and then the Go-Go’s used to perform it live before Josie Cotton turned the song into a hit.

Her Ukrainian Cowboy song reminded me a lot of Jenny Lewis.

“Johnny Are You Queer” is one of those songs that makes me very happy when it plays.
