Like I said, I can understand the judge wanting to make sure there’s no ‘foul play’ (*) , but it was was handled abysmally. If you have to do a background check like that in this situation you do it with boatloads of apologies and tact.
(*) even though I don’t really agree with criminalizing immigration, as a judge you kinda have to play by the rules. And why did he have a ‘greencard renewal’ when he was adopted as a young child? (Or does everybody need a greencard? I thought is was just for ‘foreigners’ living in the U.S.) Kinda clumsy planning to let that happen on your wedding day.
Although that at least requires the Registrar to also suspect that the relationship is not genuine and is being entered into in order to get some immigration benefit.
There is no requirement to report a genuine relationship involving someone who is not a ‘relevant national’.
But having remembered some of the nonsense that went on over civil partnerships and same sex marriages I take back what I said.
Plenty of registrars would call the Home Office in a flash.
Having had some business in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area about a decade ago, of which Camp Hill is a suburb, I’m not exactly shocked. That area gives West Virginia a run for its money on racist assholes per capita.
I’d wish we could expel the racist judge from the country, except I wouldn’t wish her on any other, not even Russia.
