That’s true where I live. But when I explored different banana style while in West Bengal, India, I discovered this rule is void. I had nice yellow ones could be inedibly unripe (like, grow fur on your tongue astringent), and green ones that felt almost solid might be just perfect sweetness, if a little to firm.
I suspect this might be true wherever a non-North American pallet of bananas is available. I’ve stopped buying more that two a week; no matter how they look when bought, there is a 2-day window where they’re just right.
