Be honest- Who are you angrier with: The shooter or the Uvalde police department?
It’s one thing to be an ineffectual bystander. It’s another to be that after you’ve supposedly been trained and sworn to serve and protect- And entrusted to do so.
At least when the Republicans behave like insane, christofascist psychopaths, they’re following through with exactly what is says on the box. Like, when the meth head with the Nazi tattoos and the “I kick puppies” t-shirt turns out to be a bad guy, it’s not like there’s any disappointing sense of betrayal there.
And what if the Uvalde shooter were still out there, a free man planning to do even worse things with impunity? I understand your frustration, but there is no comparison.
I spent the final year of my university education researching how the government of the United States (and the United Kingdom, though that was not my focus) did virtually nothing to save the Jews of Europe in spite of knowing exactly what was going on from the beginning, even going so far as to prevent NGOs from saving Jews. The anger that I feel toward the people in the government who did this (particularly a State Department apparatchik named Breckinridge Long) knows no bounds.
But I did not for an instant think that he or anyone else involved in the US response (or lack thereof) was worse than the Nazis.
The stabber is a known threat.
But the person standing there promised this wouldn’t happen on their watch and if it did they’d fix it, then did nothing.
Personal experience time, back when I was a yungun I had school security escort me for a while because I had credible threats to my safety.
They just bailed one day because they didn’t believe me. They fucked off somewhere and claimed to be watching from afar. I got shit kicked by five people something serious.
