the whole thing doesn’t really make sense if they’re the ones serving the food and running the cash registers. Are they planning to have actors come in and pretend to throw entitled tantrums?

Durgin-Park in Boston MA USA did it first. Founded ‘again’ in 1827 the waitstaff were encouraged to adopt a “surly” attitude and “backtalk” the clientele. They only lasted until 2019 though.

That, in turn, sounds like the old G&M Steakhouse(s) in Austin. “All plates served with a side of fries and abuse.” IIRC they tended to hire theater majors, who could keep up the Rickles-esque facade. I once ordered a slice of toast (Texas toast, i.e. grilled). “Toast?!” barked the cashier. It was like 35 cents or something. A couple minutes later I heard “toast up!” and the toast came flying at me like a Frisbee.

That Karen-haircut emoji somehow reminds me of another place in Austin. It was called “Mama’s” and they had a picture of Joan Crawford on the front of the menu. In the background were little clothes hangers.
