Place your bets. How long before this gets to SCOTUS and is overturned? 6 mo?
The grifters and abusers can try, but for the moment this ban on torture is a victory that will require money and effort on their part to challenge.
Even if the courts don’t overturn it the downside of doing this kind of thing by executive order (as opposed to legislation) is that it can be reversed as soon as a new executive takes office. But like @gracchus says, it’s still a short-term win at least.
God, I totally forgot they elected a Dem and misread the headline as banning affirming therapy. Glad I was wrong!
Andy is absolutely fantastic. He’s been fighting the GOP douchebags here for a while and but he’s well into his second and last term so I’m very worried about who’s going to come next as governor.
The optimists here are hoping Beshear will run for McConnell’s so seat keep your fingers crossed. And fuck McConnell. Just fuck that guy forever and always.
True enough. But it DOES force our deeply right-wing legislature to run on a pro-torture platform when they reconvene.
i’m interested to see who runs for gov next. I’m 8 years removed from working in Frankfort so I don’t have my finger on the proverbial pulse anymore. I haven’t heard any names floated from the less-conservative side. ( There’s no such thing as a “leftist” or arguably even a “liberal” in Kentucky state politics. My in-laws are conservative af and lifelong registered Democrats, so… )
Agreed. Many of the worst sins of the past 15 years are directly his doing. I hope they eat turtle soup in hell.
Yeah, it’s weird here. I haven’t heard anything about potential ca didates but if the recently elected “liberals” like Greenberg are any indication I’m not super hopeful. I’d love to see someone like Booker run but KY is just too backward for that.
good for now.
