So…is this the good guy with the gun that I keep hearing about?
After killing a judge with whom he disagreed, I wouldn’t be surprised if Stines also turns out to be a “Constitutional Sheriff.”
The central tenet of CSPOA, borrowed from the anti-government extremist sovereign citizen movement, is that the county sheriff is the ultimate authority in the county, able to halt enforcement of any federal or state law or measure they deem unconstitutional.
I got nothing.
Sov Cits with badges and guns is not the reality I needed to learn about today. First I had to process that Kamala is Black, and THEN I learned she’s also a woman. How much am I expected to absorb?
Shooting a judge is not the kind of thing that exactly wins you points with other judges when your trial comes up.
I guess his attorney could always try arguing that no judge could judge a judge-killer impartially, and that therefore any judge appointed to his trial needs to recuse themselves … but I don’t think that will probably be an effective strategy.
WTF is going on in these pics? Is this a joke, or are they doing mock scenarios, or are there literal kids with airsoft guns conducting road blocks?
Fuck if I know. It’s posted by the Sheriff’s office, though. They seem quite proud of it.
Fascists do love their roadblocks.
This is one of those Find Fifteen Things Wrong With This Picture competitions, right?
"The incident was “isolated.”
Was it really? Considering that this guy just murdered a judge right in the courthouse with cameras rolling, he seems like someone with a short fuse and impulse control problems. How many people has he killed while “on duty?” How many of those cases did he lie about?
I took that statement to be a really lame attempt at “softening” the situation. “Well, gosh, he only executed ONE judge in the courthouse, and then he stopped! That’s practically a traffic violation compared to most shootings!”
I watched this vid last night, and posted it and the following to the This is Fine thread this morning:
Kentucky State Police Trooper Matt Gayheart provided an update Thursday night after state police said Letcher County Sheriff Shawn Stines fatally shot Judge Kevin Mullins.
This man looks like a solid brick wall of beefcake, and his voice is astonishing. I seriously hope he can sing. I am not making fun of him.
Qualified immunity defense, anyone?
Trooper Elvis is scary.
…which is part of the reason I’m not poking fun at him.
ETA:
The rest of the reason is I’m not a dick who makes fun of people’s accents. Languages and dialects fascinate me like an anthropologist. I also strive to properly imitate them, like an actor would.
There was a bouncer at a local dive bar that I used to frequent back in the early 2000s. Absolute mountain of a man. Same voice as the trooper and his name was Doom.
Scary as all hell when on the clock. He’d take a smoke break outside and would be the nicest dude you ever met. He wanted to do voice work on kid’s cartoons - had impressive voice range too iirc
I hope Doom met with success!
