My guess is that he’s got a pension plan that he’ll lose if he gets fired for murdering the judge, so retirement lets him keep milking the public.

Civil Servants under felony charges connected to their work should not be allowed to retire pending investigation.

Quit, yes, but not retire. If cleared, they can retire then if they choose.
