A little tired of having to call things “kilt” so that men can wear them without shame. It’s a dress. It’s ok for men to wear a dress. You don’t have to carry an axe while you’re wearing a dress. The #nohomo signaling in this shit is exhausting.
No true Scotsman. . . .?
Anything that showcases my legs is a hot yes. That’s what my Dear Wife says, anywho…
You beat me to it; I was going to say:
“It has pockets - count me in.”
That it’s made for men is typical, but I already wear plenty of articles of men’s apparel, because it tends to be better made.
Yep, it’s a pinny alright. Which would read oddly to anyone from Scotland or elsewhere in the UK, not because it’s a dress, but because it’s a type of clothing strongly associated with school uniforms.
Why not just do this? (The obligatory post in such discussions… try to ignore the still image Youtube provides below.)
Man in kilt holds his chopper? Was that the subject?
Man in kilt with pockets holds his chopper.
Fuck the jumper - where can I get the axe?
That’s lovely! Last summer I was able to work with a local dressmaker to turn a pair of newish thrift store overalls into a jumper dress that fit my genderqueer AMAB body. Total cost was about $100 USD (30 for the overalls and 70 for the skilled labor.
I have one of their Kilts. I find that they get sun faded very quickly. But they are super comfortable in hot weather.
I was wearing one last night in Austin. Some stranger grabbed it and hiked it up to see if I was wearing underwear. WTF?
… that looks like a fantastic addition to my wardrobe. :: saves link for the non-work machine ::
Sadly, due to a few factors, the kilts I currently have a) no longer fit me; and b) all need repair work.
Can the axe fit in the pocket, though?
You just want a loop for the handle to slide into.
i don’t see any anti-gay signaling. lots of hairy, lumberjack-types of gay men can use an axe! do i refer to my kilt as a skirt? oh yes. i’m happy to let straight guys call theirs a kilt if it gets more men into 'em.
That said, if there’s one thing we’ve learned in the last few years, it’s that it helps.
As a straight guy looking to buy some skirts, I’ve seen a million pictures of kilt models holding axes or tools, I’ve never seen one pulling a freshly baked cake out of the oven or knitting by the fire. The garments are always called “kilts”, regardless of their connection to the Scottish garment of the 16th century forward. There’s a lot of macho sub-context in these advertising pictures to tell straight customers it’s safe to wear these garments.
As for the garment in question, we already have a name for it in English, a dress. “Kilt overalls” is a new coining. The only reason not to use the existing word is because of the fraught sexual politics of men in traditionally female clothing. Toxic masculinity doesn’t go away as long as we keep honoring its precepts and policing gender boundaries.
The added air flow in the nether regions is a huge plus.
They are lumberjacks, and they are ok…
So humble, so humble.
