In court documents filed Thursday, prosecutors alleged the Crumbleys ignored “troubling” red flags from their son, including instances of animal torture and disturbing, bloody sketches. Instead, they spent hours with their cherished horses and—in Jennifer’s case—doggedly pursued an extramarital affair.
“The defendants had information long before Nov. 30 (six months prior to the shooting) that their son’s only friend moved at the end of October, that the family dog died, that their son was sadder than usual, and that he was sending his mother disturbing texts about his state of mind,” one filing said, according to the Detroit Free Press . “Instead of paying attention to their son and getting him help, they bought him a gun.”
That is so fucking sad. On so many levels.
Makes me cry for the person he might have grown into, and the people all his victims might have grown into. If only the grown ups in his life had acted like such. 
Absolutely, but I’ve never seen a news story about how a young Black defendant had lost 2 or 3 of their closest friends in the previous year, etc. etc.
Also, I’m trying to parse the fact he’s known to engage in animal torture and oh-by-the-way, the family dog died. I see possible cause and effect here very differently than what the article is arguing.

The article doesn’t go into details on the mother’s extramarital affair but now I wonder if this is something that was already known to her husband or if it came to light during the course of the investigation and the prosecution is using it to play them off each other.
