I would draw special attention to the third point: despite all the public whining and lobbying efforts by the heads of the major companies, the reality is that oil & gas investors have seen it’s too volatile an industry that doesn’t return the same level of income as it once did, so the investors are pushing for closing things out and getting their investment back instead of pushing for new drilling.

Sadly, I will bet in a deep red state there are enough folks who would see that as him doing his fatherly/husbandly duty to “keep everybody in line and maintain his status as Head of the Household as God intended it.” Probably gain him votes in the primary. Hopefully drive away votes in the general, though. Hopefully.
