I think I saw it cross-stitched on a pillow in Pence’s office.

Not an event, but I’m reading Carl Hiassen’s latest fiction, β€œSqueeze Me.” It’s set in the recent past, Mar a Lago is cleverly disguised as Casa Bellicosa, there’s a full-time tanning booth technician on staff, and a beloved character and defender of nature from earlier books appears to be releasing the invasive Burmese pythons into the Casa Bellicosa area.
I’ve heard β€œThe West Wing” called β€œliberal porn” when people needed an escape from the GW presidency, an escape into a smart, thoughtful administration. This book is like the opposite of that, an escape into an exaggerated version of now, but hilarious. And knowing Hiassen, the baddies will get it in the end.

Sounds fun. I used to get into trouble for saying that the West Wing was what liberals masturbated themselves to sleep to while 24 was changing the world.

Grover Cleveland?

Someone on Twitter scared me by claiming that Trump would β€œpocket veto” the bill by waiting 10 days then return the bill to Congress, but as no one will be home on January 3rd (Sundays don’t count), he could pocket the bill.

No worries, he can’t pocket that bill. His 10 days were almost up already. (It cleared Congress on Dec 11th.)

I think the COVID stimulus bill is out of reach of pocketing too, but I wouldn’t count on anything else making it to law until the new session.

Jesus, you can’t remember it?

I think what’s a little funnier is that you counted. :upside_down_face:

Did you go backwards or forwards?

Neither, I looked it up.

And in fairness, I’m not even sure I know who the current PM of Ireland is (Taoiseach, maybe?) never mind what was going on there in eighteen hundred whatever.

It was kind of a d*ck move and I’m a little glad someone called me out.

Um, I laughed and looked him up too. Not a dick move at all.

I guess he wasn’t great though? Democrats seem kind of awful back then.

problem being they’re in recess. for christmas. who’s going to make them all come back?

then there’s the covid bill, which all he has to do is sit on. not vetoing it means congress can’t act, and it simply doesn’t become law. ( or so i understand anyway )

( eta @RickMycroft i think the pocket veto does work for the covid bill because of the end of the year boundary, or something like that. all half heard on the radio though, so take it for the little that’s worth )

They can reconvene. Given the importance of the COVID bill to everyone’s constituents I would imagine there’s a high level of motivation to get this passed.

The ratfuck gang should never have had careers in the first place. This dynastic criminality needs to be rooted out. Norms are already shredded. The norm whereby criminals in the previous regime are not the concern of the new one needs to go. These fuckers pollute the air everyone breathes.

I remember when Republicans were (justifiably) furious that Bill Clinton issued a pardon to international fugitive and former campaign donor Marc Rich. Seems that the standard for β€œhow close can a criminal be to the current President for the pardon to stink to high heaven” has shifted a bit over the last 20 years.

As usual, IOIYAR.

Yes, though those in Tromp’s crew seem all the more indistinguishable from gangster-movie archetypes.

I am so disgusted. Who next, Ghislaine?

Or just every other pedophile, arsonist, wife beater, traitor, scum in prison?

Wonder what Chris Christie has to say about this? He prosecuted Jared’s daddy. And is running in 2024.
