Pretty clearly no one since the original artist has ever so much as seen a picture of a hedgehog.
I’m willing to bet those will 100% be for sale as a Nike x Sega colab.
As if the toy Sonic is a bad thing? Some people won’t be happy unless the movie is 120 minutes of 8-bit beeps and boops.
I appreciate the effort they made to justify his eyeball design, instead of just making them separate. And they actually managed to make his spiky hair look somewhat “natural”, or at least not super goofy in furry 3D. But his weird body shape, strangely human legs/hips, and his tiny gloveless hands are nothing like the Sonic design everybody’s known for, what, nearly 30 years? Seems like they should keep that in mind for a big expensive movie.
The Sonic franchise wasn’t created until the 16 bit era.
The designers are living in some kind of parallel universe where character design from Howard the Duck was perfect and the entire evolution of CGI was driven by the need to digitize it to make movie production more flexible and cheaper so they could crank out Howard-likes at a more efficient rate.
Lucky for me, this is one piece of nostalgia that doesn’t hold a lot of weight for me.
Thanks, I hate it!
Has anyone made a watchable movie based on a video game yet? (Not counting made-up games like Tron or Wreck-it-Ralph.)
Goddamn I am trying to think now… I actually had to go google it.
Lara Croft:Tomb Raider with Angelina Jolie was goofy fun and watchable and I thought Chris Barrie stole the movie. Yes I paid theater money to see this one and was entertained enough.
I saw the first Resident Evil movie on the library streaming service. It was okay. A watchable popcorn flick you can make fun with friends.
I don’t remember Street Fighter well enough to say anything about it other than Raul Julia had fun chewing up the scenery.
Also I have seen commentary from directors that Postal from Uwe Boll is actually so hilariously awful and stupid that it is worth seeing.
The best part of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie development has been the “I can neither confirm nor deny” bits from Evan Susser on the Doughboys podcast.
That depends entirely on your definition of “watchable.” I find Japanese movies based video games to be more watchable than movies made in the west, so far. ‘Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within’ wasn’t super, but it was watchable.
Of course, the west is making movies about board games, so…
According to Rotten Tomatoes, after the most recent update, ‘Rampage’ is the best movie – out of 47 movies – based on video games.
No.
Also no.
Nopity Nope. RIP Raul, but that shit was pure-D AWFUL.
Who?
Never even heard of it.
I know a genuine Panaphonics when I see one!
Mortal Kombat was a lot of fun…I can’t say it was good because I fell asleep watching it (midnight showing after hitting the pub…ok…I passed out). But I do have fond memories of it. And come to think of it, I can’t even say it was watchable since I only watched part of it…so you may be right.
I guess Clue was the exception that proves the rule regarding that genre.
