“This could never have been predicted” said no water treatment professional since Legionella was identified as a pathogen.

Yeah… it sucks to realize I’m now one of ‘the grups.’

I can see thousands of school kids slowly encroaching upon the WH, ominously muttering, “Nyaahhh, nyaahhh. Nyah nyaahhh nyaahh.”

Followed by “we’re not allocating taxpayer resources to testing on the off chance Legionella is present” says every conservative school board in the U.S.

Capitalizing the topic of an article is correct, though.

Or anybody familiar with Legionella. It loves still waters.

Because of its bountiful supply of hot, oxygen-depleted water, Mount St. Helens is the most productive place on earth for the bacteria Legionella pneumophila Source: Legionnaire Bacteria Thrive at Mount S. Helens NYT, (paywall), 1985 07 06

Not all of the hazards encountered in the blast zone were readily perceived. The black, toxic waters of lakes and rivers harbored potentially pathogenic bacteria including Klebsiella pneumoniae , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , and Legionella pneumophila . L . pneumophila had caused the mysterious pneumonia epidemic at an American Legion convention in Philadelphia in July 1976. Called Legionnaires’ disease, the illness sickened 211 people, 34 of whom died.

And then there’s plain old chemical contaminants like lead, that might accumulate in unused systems.

Guidance for Reopening Buildings After Prolonged Shutdown or Reduced Operation

AWWA is a better source regarding opening buildings back up. Water treatment professionals vs. 45’s cronies, who do you trust?

If you read the CDC website link, I think you will see they are not “45’s cronies.” Both organizations are saying the same thing. The point is that the schools didn’t follow CDC guidelines.

Except that in recent months the leadership of the CDC has been under pressure to promote Trump’s lies. They’ve seriously undermined themselves as a trust source of information by doing so.
