I used to play paintball with a guy who had leg braces and crutches. He was one of the last cases of Polio in the US.

I would not have remembered except the immunizations for my kid have been fairly recent and I was just figuring out if her proof for school was still good a few days ago. She gets all the vaccines.
I recently had a pneumonia one. The CDC recently expanded eligibility for that one to include younger people with lung vulnerability like asthma or a history of lung reactivity to illness. I was very pleased

Or worse, they act like the more susceptible-to-manipulation [1] branch of my in-laws, and quote the misleading stats that “polio vaccines kill more people than polio”. Which is technically true, but only because (IIRC)
a) polio vaccine deaths are rare - worldwide, we see a few hundred per year in the face of massive vaccination programs
b) polio case numbers are down to less than a 1/10th of a percent of what they were a few decades ago
[1] They are not susceptible to manipulation because they’re dumb. They’re quite smart. One has a PhD in chemistry. They’re lonely and highly skilled in things that have little current economic demand, so they don’t see much place for themselves in the world. There are probably other reasons too, but lack of smarts isn’t one of them. In any case, a wacko church and the anti-vaxx people got their warm loving claws into them.
