Is it REALLY so hard not to be misogynistic? Really? Like… WTF, LG?

Well, as apologies go, at least it’s an actual apology.

Not one of those twitter fauxpologies.

They should have known better in the first place, though. There have been court cases about upskirting. It’s not rocket surgery, it’s basic respect for human beings. It frustrates me that we have to keep going over this very basic shit with some men.

Really, so you auditioned actors, and hired a crew, and sent it to editing, and prepared an mp4 for upload to tiktok and somehow this slipped through approval?

Call me skeptical.

Wait, are you being serious?

We apologize for any offense this ill-conceived video may have caused.

That’s like textbook fauxpology.

That bit makes all the difference.

Fair enough. I read that as “We’ll try not to do it again.”
I would have preferred something closer to:

We posted a misogynistic advertising video on TikTok.
We understand the public outrage at this. Because we’re horrified, too. We’re ashamed of it and cannot explain how it came about.

Well, yes. It takes a lot of manful striving, as the apology points out, and even then they can’t guarantee results.

And now what are people talking about? LG and their LG V60. Job well done ad-creatures, bonuses all around.

That they will “strive”? Well, okay then. Sounds like another word for “try”. Also, “such an occurrence” leaves a loophole for some other form of bullshit to draw eyeballs and clicks that they can then “apologize” for later.

This is Poland, land of obscene bananas. Seems like they are 100 years behind on treating women as humans. I’m not at all surprised at this.

So they apologized for the ad, but I’m trying to figure out what exactly it is selling. Does LG have a feature that won’t show the latest pictures unless it recognizes the face in the camera? Is the picture scrolling backwards from what it normally is? Do they disable the sound so the old guy can take two shots real quick while the lady is walking down the stairs? Does the LG phone actually have some kind of feature designed to cater to people who take creepshots?!?

The internet is literally sagging under the weight of easily available, HD, porn. Sigh. I guess it really is all about the journey.

What is the downside for the companies that make these ads and then issue apologies? Do they ever pay massive fines? Do they ever fire the executives who approved them?

I bet the companies can show that the ads plus the free media coverage (as we are giving them today, here) greatly outweighs any penalty they might pay in lost customers.

It’s not about the actual images, it’s about the power and the thrill of the forbidden.

It disgusts me how you make a generalization about whole country (that you have probably never visited) from this ad. If this was about any other country, for example Spain, I don’t think you would make such generalization. Sadly hating Poland seems to be very trendy in countries seeing themselves as “more civilized”.
If you are from country that calls itself “leader of the free world”, look what your president says about women.

Given the social atmosphere we live in, when these “Oops, our boo-boo” ads show up, I assume they are trying for controversy and subsequent coverage.

There is no such thing as bad press.
