The only failure would be in the rescue crew did not investigate the report. This was just a training dummy? Great! That’s an even better result than finding a live, traumatized human being floating in the North Sea. Good job, crew!
Apparently, the dummy was lost by another RNLI crew from Hartlepool during a training two weeks ago.
Hartlepool? The rescuers were lucky their rescuee didn’t turn out to be a pissed-off monkey seeking revenge.
Hurrah, for the RNLI!
If you want to see lots and lots of RNLI heroics, bravery and amazing voluntary service by highly trained volunteer civilians (and I wrote that before I saw the one-box below!), get a VPN and go to iPlayer. There are dozens of episodes.
Post says
a Royal National Lifeboat rescue crew
Just to be picky, RNLI is the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and the full name should have been used there. Sloppy.
And Hartlepool is mis-spelt Harlepool in one instance in the post. Also sloppy.
“Oh, for my sake! Just wait 'til I come back and give you a piece of my mind, Mr Signwriter! My crucifixion is to raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute!”
…or a man faking his own death
Yes- and it’s good to emphasise that everyone here did the right thing- The person who reported the incident was absolutely correct to do so- better a genuine mistaken call-out than missing someone in danger.
Also, just to emphasise it a bit more, the RNLI is a charity and the lifeboaters who run the rescues are all volunteers. Three cheers to all their good work keeping the North Sea safe.
