I remember being assured as a child that lightning goes right through cars, harmlessly, because of the rubber tires, which “ground” the car. I never learned enough about physics to figure out just how that’s nonsense, but I always suspected that it is.

It seems like it didn’t kill everyone in the car, so it actually might not be nonsense - just overstated.
