…
I like it very much! Strong Disintegration overtones in that song!
Not entirely right, and definitely not entirely wrong either.
The Top does not get nearly enough love that it deserves…
Pretty much ever single album prior to Wild Mood Swings is just fantastic top to bottom… Post WMS, you get some less solid works, I’d argue.
Having had a chance to hear the official radio single coming on October 9th, I can tell you that the wait will have been worth it. The album has strong Disintegration vibes and I am here for it.
That’s incorrect tho…
Wow, Friday I really am in love.
Also even if I didn’t like their music so much I’d have a fondness for The Cure because back in high school a guy who sat in front of me who had the same first name as me would joke, “Going down the halls of this school and yelling ‘Hey Chris!’ is like going to a Cure concert and yelling ‘Hey, you in the black!’”
6/10. I’m still looking forward to the new album though, it’s rare that the single ends up being my favorite song off of the album.
Footnote: opinions are like assholes, everyone’s got one, and they all stink.
With that said…
That first 3:20 intro drags on, no crescendo. I’ll need to to re-edit my own version to put that intro into the middle somewhere.
Lyrics are okay, slightly repetitive, but Disintegration vibes are there.
I’m in agreement with Thom Dunn though:
love it, love the Cure, but i always feel a little sad for Robert Smith. i mean, i am sure he sleeps very well at night, but to be wearing the same outfit and makeup he wore in 1983, trapped in that look because that’s how we all think of him, is just so sad. Even Boy George has changed his look many times, and he’s fine… come on, Robert, free yourself! Don’t be like Angus Young!
Apparently, you and I are the only ones who saw that episode of South Park.
It makes you wonder if this is ol’ Bob telling us that the band is nearing the end of its lifespan. He’s 65, Roger and Reeves are both in their late 60s. I mean, the Stones can pull it off.
The single itself is quite good. It hit me hard.
My feelings exactly. I have a good feeling about this new batch. Trying to keep my expectations low or at least reasonable.
I saw The Cure last year and they performed some new stuff. It was great. What really stuck with me (among many things, like the cheap tickets, cheap merch, and nearly 3 hour performance) was how Robert looked genuinely thrilled and humbled to be there and performing. He would slowly walk from one side of the stage to the other just basking in the crowd reaction. I mean, just look at his face:
He even took gifts from fans, which is rare.
I’ve been to so many shows where the performers clearly don’t want to be there and/or are just going through the motions. It filled me with so much joy to see Smith looking so happy. His apparent appreciation made me feel appreciated as a fan that spent good money to be there.
Robert Smith definitely wins the celebrity Beetlejuice cosplay competition there. What a top bloke. I like the band’s dark stuff, but I’m especially fond of their silly stuff, too. Love Cats came out when I was 20, and it really spoke to me. Smith’s voice is a lovely thing.
Yes, but he’s had many different looks over the years… I think you’d only think he’s basically exactly the same if you hadn’t been paying attention…
