I thought slip-and-slides had become like lawn darts? Something about people whacking the backs of their heads on the ground and having back injuries from sitting too hard and stuff like that.

Huh, yep, but only for adults and older children. Evidently large humans are not as slippery and slidey, and come to a jarring halt when they neither slip nor slide.
