Lower-case "x" as a gender-neutral typographic convention

Thank you for your dismissal of peoples identities.

Hermaphroditic connectors do exist. Personally I have no objection to male and female connectors since they pretty much describe which is which - a quarter inch jack plug is very phallic. Nobody is describing the gender orientation of the connector, or whether it wants to be called Mrs, Ms or Mx. It’s purely about the mechanics.

The terms “plug” and “socket” are not always useful on their own because, for instance, military screw connectors may have a plug which contains entirely female connections and a socket with entirely male connections, or even a mixture. So the terms “female plug” and “male socket” do actually make sense. Abolishing the distinction would cause a big terminological problem.

And that’s before we get onto those DC power connectors which have a plug with a central hole and a socket with a central pin. They aren’t hermaphroditic (which implies that both the plug and socket have identical contacts).

And “external condom” sounds like a wrapper for the naughties.

Shouldn’t that be Mx Arsehole?

if it’s ok to cuss someone for differences of opinion at least use their opinion against them?

I am really not in the fucking mood but since you insist. Polite me is having a sick day, crying at the injustice of the world.

By saying that you are dismissing the identity of people who wish to use Mx. They are people who have had a gender forced on them and have chosen to reject that and choose an identity that feels correct to them. It harms no-one but denying them that choice can provably cause mental illness. I have been on the receiving end of this dismissive attitude and have very little patience for it.

If you are not criticising the use of Mx then why say it in the first place?

Lots of people word wide have faced the fact that the world at large won’t conform to their linguistic whims and peculiarities. Personally I don’t see it as reasonable to expect the 99.9999% to censure themselves for the 0.0001%.

Say no more, I’m experienced enough to recognise dogwhistle transphobia when I see or hear it.

By the way, the conservative estimates of how many trans* people are in the general population is 0.1%.

Thank you for engaging with them as much as you did, though. I just didn’t have the energy or the patience to deal with yet another fucking microaggression the whole thing today.

Call me names, accuse me of phobias, do as you like. You’ve already decided you know better than I what is in my mind.

I’m reminded of how much it fucking shits me when folks say ‘people that’ instead of ‘people who’.

One of the tests of civilisation is how we treat small minorities who encounter prejudice or discrimination. Even six nines is still 7000 people worldwide. Where does your test of “reasonableness” stop?

My expectation is that all people are treated the same in the eyes of the law. The ideal is when people treat each other with dignity despite their differences.

I’m sure that most people in this situation have resigned themselves to the fact that not everyone will respect their preferences about gendered titles.

However, there’s a difference between a trans person saying, “I prefer to be called <insert title/pronoun here>, but I’m never going to get everyone saying that,” and someone looking at that trans person and saying “That person prefers to be called <insert title/pronoun here>; that’s extreme nonsense.”

It looks like you’re doing the latter. It’s not endearing.

Although the origin of the term lies with the name of its inventor in its modern form (and is also the name of a French town), it has not gone unnoticed that it is nearly a homophone of “con d’homme.”
I don’t normally bother translating things that Google Translate managed easily, but in this case putting in the phrase gives an incorrect sfw answer. Putting in the two words individually lends to a correct translation half of which is nsfw.
