If the Gallup polling is to be believed, the GOP has somehow been gaining ground among black and Hispanic voters despite their best efforts to alienate as many people as possible. I sure hope this is just some weird polling artifact and doesn’t reflect reality.

“Sure seems like you-all are heading in a direction which hasn’t any future at all…?” “meh, as our numbers dwindle we’ll compensate by becoming more and more violent and deranged. It’s all good.” [yosemite sam shooting at random] -sigh-

That’s just good business acumen.

Or maybe they’re tearing the minority outreach infrastructure down because it was in shambles and will rebuild it. Bigger, stronger, faster! /s

Sadly, it’s all too easy to underestimate the capacity for US voters to vote against their own best interests.

Looking in from the outside, you’d think Hispanic would vote heavily against Republicans but a) like everyone else, ‘Hispanic’ is not a monolithic block and b) many subgroups are very conservative.

Cuban immigrants are usually the group most point to - fleeing Cuba, many tend to immediately recoil from anything that resembles socialism or similar. Mexican, Honduran, and Central American Hispanic people generally also tend to be strongly Catholic, which is conservative by nature. My inlaws are completely and totally against anything LGBT+, but they’re slowly bending as my happily-married-but-gay niece is involved with all activities and my trans nephew is no longer feeling the need to hide.

Spanish youtube, social media, and even broadcast news (usually controlled by Sinclair) tends to either lean hard right or dance around them. I’ve heard our normal, evening broadcast news them mention that Biden has memory issues so severe that he had to be taken off speaking, which of course never happened. And the YouTube videos you get fed are just complete fabrications all the time. In English, you hear about campaigns to block misinformation, but if there is such a thing for Spanish, they’re waaaaaaay behind.

This of course also doesn’t get to both the ladder pulling and country infighting. Again, “Hispanic” is not a monolithic block. I hear weekly from my inlaws about how the people from Venezuela are getting all these breaks that they, as Mexican, never got. I know many people who feel that immigration should be harder, despite them struggling through it themselves.

Maybe Lara can run the RNC into the ground just as her “stable” “genius” “billionaire” FIL has done with so many of his companies.

I don’t think Gallup’s or any other pollsters’ numbers have been particularly useful for a while. Aside from only polling people with landlines who want to talk to pollsters, they’ve also over-sampled conservative voters, often by large amounts, for decades.

What a lot of conservative Hispanics don’t seem to realize is that the GOP doesn’t only hate undocumented immigrants – they hate everyone who isn’t pure lily-white Anglo-Saxon. They don’t want to build death camps for immigrants – they want to deport or kill every Latino person they can get their hands on. Doesn’t matter if they’ve just crossed the Rio Grande or if they’re multi-generation citizens.

The bad news: the fully-MAGAfied RNC will do anything to get their man back into office.
The good news: fully-MAGAfied tends to mean mostly-incompetent.

The only problem I have with the image at the top is that elephant is quite adorable.

The RNC elephant would be an evil-looking rotting, one-eyed, one-tusked threadbare orange mammoth.

FWIW they’ve been including cellphone-only users in their polls since 2008.

Of course polling data has never been perfect on predicting election outcomes…

Can confirm - Gallup called my cell in 2008. “Gallop Poll” was their caller ID. I assumed it was a spoof, but out of curiosity, I answered it. It really was a Gallop pollster. :woman_shrugging:

There’s a thread for this sort of thing:

Just a general forewarning: every time I’ve come to this site the thread has an entirely different headline from the time before.

Take a methodology (calling random phone numbers) that selects for the most credulous potential voters and apply it to demographics that are (rightfully) on high alert. Safe to say the distortion is amplified.
