I took a nice blow to the head when I was 12 years old, and fractured my skull and got 12 stitches. I’m still, I say, I’m still here.

Sound always makes it worse, even in retelling.
Friend of mine grew up in Australia. Jumped out of a tree when he was a young teen. Landed on a sticky-up pointy root that went straight through his foot. The sound he used to descibe it still makes me shudder:
