Y’know, I’ve been contemplating my own ‘dark side’ for a while now, and how my worst, most base impulses genuinely scare me sometimes.
With that kind of self-reflection in mind, I can fathom exactly one situation where I could even see that as a possibility; if someone has done grievous, irreparable harm to my kid.
In that particular instance, I could see myself losing all control in a ‘blood rage’… but again, the possibility itself mortifies me.
Going to such extremities over mere property, though?
Seems like someone moral’s compass may be badly broken…

I hear you on that one! I could imagine some “well, fuck it” switch flipping in that case and going into a dissociative rage.
I can’t help wondering how relevant (to the violence) it is that one of the couple is in the military.
It almost sounds like they saw it as a chance to engage in some off-duty, real-life war games of their own…
