Zomg this! I shed a tear when the freedom of information act failed to deliver it.

If there was a schadenfreude to electricity converter, news about Shkreli could charge a fleet of electric vehicles.

Shkerli:
7 years for bilking investors.
0 years for bilking people who needed medication which they could no longer afford.

Jeff:
13 months (at home) for raping girls.

45:
0 years (so far) for lying to congress and blatantly violating numerous other laws.

Clipping from Appeal to Reason printed in Girard, Kansas around 1905. Things haven’t quite changed all that much.

This is great. Does it send a message to the other pharma bros? Nah, not so much.

Who gives a good flying fornication at a rolling donut for this insignificant little feces stain? If the pharmaceutical industry had designed Shkreli from scratch, they could not have come up with a better lightning rod.

The problem is that while Shkreli is indeed horrific scum that deserves every minute of his punishment and more, the True Lords of Big Pharma are infinitely worse. We can’t just dust off our hands and say, “Aha, justice is served!” We need to find the ur-scum that spawned him and neutralize them a million or billion or trillion dollars at a time.

Big Pharma must be broken up.

Welp, they broke up I.G. Farben. What we got, among other things, was Bayer, purveyor of that lovely ‘cough suppressant’, heroin (great for kids!).
