McSweeney's Wendy Molyneux tackles the logic behind COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy

I fucking love the Irish. Spent six years there.

Yup she’s about where I’m at with regards to the intentionally unvax’d.

We just made it to the Jeep but Deltasaurus is still trying to chase us down.

At least we’re better off than the unvaccinated guy who tried to hide in the port-a-potty.

It was bad enough when ICUs were so full of unvaccinated covid patients that no one else could get the life-saving care they needed, but we’ve hit a new milestone for utter dumbfuckery: hospitals in Oklahoma are so full of people who have seriously poisoned themselves with horse de-wormer, there’s no beds for gunshot victims.

Those fucking fucks.

I can somewhat understand hesitancy to get the vaccine. Fear is powerful and we already have so many new unknown horrors coming at us over the past few years that it’s really easy to get overwhelmed. Fear is not rational and I can both understand and respect that, even if I also feel that one should just get over it and get vaccinated already.

However these idiots have chosen to take a medication that is in no way intended to treat or prevent covid and in a formulation specifically for animals around 5x their mass. This isn’t fear, this is sheer stupidity. I’d actually prefer to not refer to people with whom I disagree with as ‘stupid’ simply because they have a different opinion, but it’s kind of hard to not do so when they consider this a rational action.

I clicked through and read the whole thing in my head in the voice of Michael Rappaport. I mean, I hear he’s kind of an asshole, but I still had a good fucking time!

And here we are. Conservatives are blinding themselves to own the libs.

That, or they’ve been seriously busy on pornhub lately…

I lose a lot of this understanding when I remember that most of the things we consider horrors, most antivaxxers consider either victories or hoaxes.

Victims of one preventable condition are preventing access to hospital beds for victims of a different preventable condition! 'Murica!

I mean, the company that makes the stuff has itself pointed out that there’s no evidence the drug does anything to help or prevent covid, and that people shouldn’t be taking it for that reason.

Last week I went to see a bunch of my relatives. They are all unvaccinated for the most unimaginably stupid reasons. They literally spend their days worshipping angels (my aunt makes money by organizing gatherings where angels are painted in watercolor). Their whole apartment is stuffed with an almagam of esoteric trinkets. I went into an hour long discussion with my uncle over his opinion that there are „massive gaps in evolution that science can’t explain“. I actually ended up giving him in my layman’s knowledge a talk on the whole theory of evolution and then asked him to point out the gaps so I could explain them to him. He said that was too intricate a subject for such a short discussion and fled the kitchen to never return.

In short, shit is hopeless, people are just too fucking stupid.

This appears to be written in the New Jersey vernacular.

Wendy also writes for Bob’s Burgers, and co-created The Great North.

Both great cartoons.

Indeed

Obglitatory:

Conditions have to be right in order for fossilization to occur, but besides that, there always will be gaps.
Imagine a ruler, with humans at one end & chimps at the other. At the mid-point is the fabled Missing Link. Now you have [at least] two Missing LInks:
One between humans & the former missing link, and another one between the fml & chimps.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
It is doubtful we will ever be able to ‘fill in the gaps’, so your Uncle’s arguement is fallacious, since the goalposts can always be moved.

Well, some people are, for sure.
Interesting times…
