Michael Moore’s to do list for a revolution: an intervention for liberals

Lol. Sanders waa about as clear as someone could be: “Get behind Clinton! Do NOT vote third party!” He was loud and emphatic about defeating Trump and urged his supporters several times to vote for Clinton. What on earth are you talking about?

I wish the Republicans had a superdelegate system.

Agreed, but the super-delegates are a party problem, rather than a systemic problem (I guess more of a systemic problem inside the democratic party). That involves getting into the Democratic party itself and pushing for change from the inside, while the problems in #6 are larger scale systemic problems.

Michael Moore remains as gormless and demagogic as ever. Clinton, Kerry and Gore didn’t lose because of third parties. They lost because of Cllnton, Kerry and Gore. That Moore, phoney that he is, is still peddling this line 16 years later is all you need to know about the inept moral entrepreneur and full-time gobshite.

I’m not sure what you are on about. Moore clearly thinks Gore would have won without Nader, but that’s commonly held opinion. He didn’t blame Kerry or Clinton’s loss of third parties. He gave five reasons why he thought Trump would win and none of them were third party candidates. This post is about a seven point call to action, none of which is about stopping third parties. It references his five point morning after to do list which has nothing to do with third parties. Am I missing something (other than you mentioning that you don’t like Michael Moore? I got that part).

Is Moore truly lacking in gorm? I wonder if it might be you who are stuck singing the same tune, as in 2016 Moore says Clinton and the DNC made that bed themselves.

Perhaps, although the opposite just as easily applies.

Gore might have won if there was a stiff breeze from the east for all I know. The election was won by a rounding error in Florida, Nader seems like an odd thing to pick on as the cause of Bush’s win.

I’m way more concerned about a point that is on Moore’s list - not allowing people to vote because of their criminal record. Most developed nations let prisoners vote even while they are in prison. Disenfranchisement is a huge problem for democracy and a much better thing to work on if you think Gore should have won 2000.

If that’s what you took away from reading the article, you really ought to re-read it, since the Nader bit was a minor parenthetical geared towards the question of whether third parties can effect progressive change. If you read that article and walked away feeling the need to defend something Nader did 16 years ago, you have no sense of the gravity of our current situation, and missed the point of the article epically.

The really funny thing is that Gore might actually have won Florida. As in, when all the ballots were finally examined, more people in Florida voted for Gore than for W.

No, not funny. I meant “farcical.”

And don’t just show up a million or two times more than the opposition. That ain’t gonna cut it.

You are mistaken about Sanders, he laid down like a good DNC/HRC lapdog (no doubt fearing for his life if he did otherwise) - getting back up only to campaign: clearly for Clinton. But there was indeed such a thing as the Sanders voter who turned to Trump. Sanders Vs. Trump would have produced excellent debates on the issues, from more radical perspectives, and I think we would have had a much more informed electorate. IMO Sander would have won and would now be president-elect. But the DNC never gave us a chance to see that, did they? They promised it to Hillary 8 years ago, and that kept promise potentially screwed the country depending on what Trump gets up to. And radicals who just wanted change were sorely tempted to vote for change ala Trump, and against the pro-Clinton DNC establishment.

The real winners in this election were the anarchists; Trumps win (which I called btw) has sent the left into a riotous frenzy, and empowered the “lost middle” against the Dems that haven’t given a damn about them for 25 years. A perfect setup for continuing conflict, fueled by media, liberal education institutions, poverty, market forces, technology, etc.

A response to today’s America and Enkita from another thread:

Um, I’m an American, and America is considered by some to be The Greatest Human Experiment, socioculturally, sociohistorically, ontologically, and epistemologically because of its inherent pluralism and inclusive tendencies. Humanity itself is a great experiment, but America was founded as a place for all peoples, regardless of race, creed, socioeconomic status, education, or caste, ideally regardless of melanin, yet we are failing fiercely, imo, and color has nothing to do with it; privilege, everything, so friend, please be assured, I believe, and know, I am no better than anyone on earth, and I try only to better myself, and perhaps in my process, better those I connect with. Or not.

I will try to do better tomorrow…

P.S. Trump is not making pluralistic picks. stands up

P.P.S. Yo, Electoral College, seriously? Seriously? SERIOUSLY?

That’s a rather cynical notion of “anarchy”! As a far-left radical, I don’t think of conflict as a win. And certainly not conflict resulting from Trump’s looting.

In fact, I did vote for Sanders, and supported him up to the point at which he called me a “distortion.”

So you are an ass for assuming that I didn’t.

And in the end, climate change was NOT more important to Sanders than his own ego.

No, you are an ass for taking offense. Thi/us is the internet…

You’re not hearing what I’m saying.

Environmental changes are happening so fast right now that 8 years, or even possibly 4 years, of Trump and you can kiss the entire Earth goodbye.

The Arctic is currently in a positive feedback loop. Instead of going down as the region heads into winter, the temperature went up. A lot. 20 C. This seems to be because the jet stream has gotten wavy and that happens when the Arctic temperature approaches that of lower latitudes. Higher temperature means thinner sea ice to reflect light so the ocean is warmer. So the jet stream gets more wavy. Rinse and repeat.

We are screwed and I frankly don’t give a shit about SCOTUS or anything else compared to that. There’s no point.

The reason SETI doesn’t detect anything is that they all killed themselves off the same way we are. Natural selection abhors intelligence.
