Some may see comical cosplayers here who worship special forces they would never be admitted to for a whole range of reasons but I see a deadly weapon strapped to the chest of someone who is far more likely to use it in anger or out of sheer panic than someone with the appropriate training would.

Their anger and/or panic is what would get them killed too. They would stand behid their tacticool pickup or SUV shooting at people and someone would crush them with their family van. These guys think tough but think their bigotry is a layer of armor.
Real training breeds restraint and caution; these guys are arrogant and incautious because they have the toys and think that’s all they need.

Oh, he knows damn well that he’ll get away with it. He also knows how to skirt the line just enough.
Plus, if he does somehow get in trouble, he’ll just use that to bolster his case with the GQP and show that the Dems are taking political prisoners and he was right all along.

oil primarily, and defense contracts second. by having us bases in iraq as staging locations for future wars, and by having the display of our military power for the other oil producing countries in the area
the first part didn’t work out, but the defense contractors were still quite happy.

Most wars stopped being net-economic-positive for the aggressor in the past 100 years or so, which is part of why there are fewer wars between industrialized nations now, and more opposition to wars in general, and less of a constituency for colonialism. It’s not like any of the moral arguments against wars are new, but they have been gaining ground as wars get more destructive, more publicly visible, and less profitable.
