Or returning, more accurately. I mean, this was what happened at Stonewall. And now Florida is passing a don’t say gay bill, and other states are banning gender affirming health care. It’s not coming. It’s already here.

Putin is openly following Hitler’s playbook, often right down to the language used. I’m afraid it’s only a matter of time before Russia sees its first “spontaneous demonstration” (AKA kristallnacht pogrom) against LGBTQ+ people there.

It never really stopped, just got less common in major cities. Raids may not happen in the same ways in small towns, but queer bars and social establishments are strongly discouraged in so many other ways. Also note that the Giuliani era in NYC was strongly marked by bringing back reinforcement of the Prohibition era law about dancing in locations that serve alcohol, with most of the attention being directed towards queer bars.
