Now I’m thinking about Disney and the American state… This would have come out smack in the middle of building of the Eisenhower insterstate system… Disney of the postwar period was nothing if not in the business of trying to promote a futurist agenda, we can safely say… Obviously lots of the stuff they predict was “wrong” but the point was the vision, not the accuracy (which anyone who has read sci-fi in the postwar period knows, is less about the future and more about when it was written). But this was not just happenstance, but part of a larger ideology of inevitably technological progress, and there must have certainly been state aims that Disney was helping to realize with productions like this…
But you know what isn’t evident in this vision of the future? Public transit.
Also, some of this ended up being true…
