I can remember thinking how they all looked like Speed Racer (which I’d already watched, from a very young age). At some point I noticed all the Japanese names in the credits, but that’s still way before I’d heard the term “anime.”
FWIW I have a somewhat vague memory of Styx performing on some prime-time TV show, and Ricky Schroeder introduced them. He pronounced “Styx” to rhyme with “bikes.”
