NASCAR investigating noose found in Bubba Wallace's garage stall at Alabama race

Good news, apparently! After investigation the FBI determined that the garage door pull-rope that was tied into a noose has been in that location for months, long before Bubba Wallace was ever assigned to that garage. So whether it was intended as a symbol of lynching or not, it was not targeted specifically at Wallace in retaliation for the Confederate flag thing.

investigators concluded the “garage door pull rope fashioned like a noose” had been in the same position since at least last October, while Wallace was only assigned the garage last week. In a statement, NASCAR expressed gratitude toward the FBI for its investigation and said it was “thankful that this was not an intentional, racist act against Bubba.”

Obviously NASCAR is still racist AF, but if the FBI investigators are correct at least this particular act wasn’t quite what we all thought it was.

Unfortunately, there was a second noose at another NASCAR place and that’s still under investigation.

Well damn. Hopefully by some miracle there’s a less sinister explanation for that one as well, but even if not, I guess it’s slightly less terrifying than what we thought was going on in the Bubba Wallace case, where we thought that some Nascar employee with access to his garage was making direct threats to his safety.
