The headline is slightly misleading, he wasn’t an agent, he was a paid informer.
Reading between the lines, it sounds like he was a fascist shithead who took money from “The Security Service” (as MI5 are now named) to snitch on other, rival, fascist shitheads. I guess he must have done a good enough job of this that they were willing to cover up his shit.

IIRC in Briitsh intelligence terminology an agent is an informer. An agent in the sense you mean (e.g. FBI agent) is an officer.

Ok - so given Priti Vacant’s urge to deport all refugees to Rwanda, unless they are MI5 informers and obvious criminals who in other circumstances would be deported STAT, perhaps they should all take a leaf out of this guy’s book and join some right-wing groups and offer to become professional ‘sources’ for the UK security services.

He’s described in the court judgment as a “Covert Human Intelligence Source”, which the MI5 CHIS recruitment web page(!) describes in glowing terms as an “agent”, distinct from their own “officer” staff.
[Edit: and I suspect they have a policy of never cutting loose, to stop people spilling the agency’s dirty secrets at least as much as to encourage recruitment]
