I miss hearing Leonard Nimoy narrate these types of videos.
It doesn’t really read to me as a 4K video but a pan & scan of a still image. Which yeah, that’s exactly what they’re doing. But definitely not dunking on the effort that went into making it, it’s eerie to think about what it’d be like to physically be on Mars.
kilo-bits
Megabytes
Hyphens? Capitalization? The inconsistency is maddening.
Apparently a big theme for the latter part of Nimoy’s career was for him to meet scientists and researchers who totally geeked out about meeting Mr. Spock, then went along to excitedly explain their research in technical terms he was woefully unequipped to understand because they’d forget that in real life he was an actor with very little post-secondary education.
Really cool. Can anyone explain all the blue at Pillinger point? And the bluish floor of a crater earlier on in the video. I also saw blue sky at one point. Are these artifacts?
That was explained in the annoying voice-over. Color adjustments were made by NASA to assist in identifying rock formations.
ETA: The voice-over wasn’t bad. I just would have enjoyed the video more watching the scenery & listening to the background music more without it…
This confirms some of the amazing discoveries from earlier missions, notably, “Mars ain’t the kind of place to raise your kids. In fact it’s cold as hell.”
With time and perspective I think we can now all agree that it’s still more hospitable than Texas.
Spectacular!
Yes. I’m sick of every narrator sounding like something from Shark Week.
Well, west Texas anyway…
I was thinking the exact same thing! He was the Attenbury of spacy vids.
I enjoyed it the second time I watched by playing Rick Wakeman’s new album over the top.
It’s called “The Red Planet” and it’s awesome.

To be fair, if you’re not into 1970’s progressive rock, you might not like it.
70s prog rock isn’t strictly my jam, but I’d check it out. Looks like the videos in the link are him mostly talking about recording the album, rather than any of the music (unless I’m too impatient).
Any links to the tunes from the album yet?
https://rwcc.com/ has a link to his youtube channel, which has some clips of a couple of tracks I think.
Oh, duh. I turned the sound off to enjoy the landscape. Probably listening to music at the time.
