oh damn it. The Meters are (were? ) so freaking funky.
Here’s to the Uptown Rulers
The Meters
The Wild Tchoupitoulas
The Neville Brothers
How did I not know that Art Neville and James Booker were born on the same day. There was some seriously crazy cosmic allignment on Dec. 17, 1937.
“Poppa Funk,” as he was known
Righteous!
It’s hard to believe that so many wonderful musicians could come from the same family.
Ivan Neville continues the tradition with Dumpstafunk. The music continues.
While he will be missed, it’s kinda nice that we had him for so long.
Very young Neville Brothers with their uncle George Landry aka “Big Chief Jolly.”
Great video. Thanks.
The band is The Wild Tchoupitoulas which included all the Meters (Art Neville, George Porter, Zig Modeliste, and Leo Nocintelli) in addition to the Nevilles. They were the first group to record traditional Mardi Gras Indian music (in a truly fantastic album). Making yet another major musical addition from Art and them
