It’s pretty evident that the questionnaire’s creators had a particular meaning in mind by putting this question in the section of questions on delinquent behaviours. And the discussion here indicates that readers interpret a particular meaning, that of carrying a handgun (concealed or otherwise) when going about one’s day in public.
I can imagine, however, that some rural youth in the upper two quintiles of family income might respond to the question in about the same way that they’d answer “how many times in the last 12 months have you carried an x?”, with x being any item found in the home that might be carried to move it to where it was needed/desired.
