It’s OK, they have plenty of money to pay the fines.
The real question is, was the car up to date with it’s inspection? If it was, does it really matter if the sticker is fake?
Unless there’s a shortage of stickers in NY, that seems incredibly unlikely.
Windshield replacement is one example where a car may be properly inspected but no sticker is visible.
Is it that hard to take a picture of someone’s sticker & print it?
In NY inspection stickers have to be applied by the inspection station, so if it were valid they’d have a sticker. The times I’ve had a windshield replaced they scraped them off and reapplied them.
That checks out if your windshield is replaced at a place that does inspections as well, I guess. There are lots of mobile businesses that swap windshields as well.
All I’m saying is, not all scenarios lead down the, ‘drunk or criminal doing stupid things’ path.
