We all know how this is going to go.

The capitalist viewpoint: “It’s cheaper to pay the victims than it is to retrain the police.”

Let me guess: Eric Adams is opposed to this judgment.

i had first read the headline as: ny pays police $13.7m to have people beaten. which is also true from a certain perspective.

( and really it’s that people themselves paying via taxes, unless the city administration is going to dock police salaries or something. which they should. which they won’t )

They get paid a whole lot more than that to beat people, unfortunately.

yeah. this is more like a bonus i suppose. job well done cops, we’re happy to pay this little bit extra so you can keep doing what you’re doing

Let’s hope so. Adding 2 digits to that amount, making it an annual payment, and investing it in services to replace the police would be a start. $13.7M is about one thousandth of NYPD’s annual budget
