Hi! I’ve also done a pretty decent job of living in NC, since I moved here when I was 9. Maybe we can go back and revisit these symbols when the state government isn’t giving white supremacists millions of dollars for fun (covered thoroughly on BB,) and multiple cities (Wake Forest and Garner at the very least,) don’t have to cancel their Christmas parades for fear that the white supremacists marching in the parade will result in problems for the town.

Come to think of it, back in university there were a bunch of antisemitic stickers plastered all over campus right before Trump’s election. I imagine other major state universities had similar problems: students spent ages defacing them all. Maybe we can start talking about the rehabilitation of this symbol adopted pretty much just to terrify minorities (as thoroughly discussed above,) once all the surprisingly young adults who do this sort of thing are dead?

I don’t even see how that would work. “Rehabilitation” is the action of restoring something that has been damaged to its former condition, but the Confederate flag has always been a symbol of a violent white supremacist cause.

I mean, eugenicists just said whatever popped into their heads, and when I read that article about white British populations vs. Pakistani British populations I can’t help but feel that what they were really saying is, “We should be doing something about these Pakistanis!”. Then they spouted some psuedo-scientific garbage.

The last I read marrying your first cousin isn’t really that big a problem. But obviously if you take people who do nothing but marry their cousins it eventually starts to look like marrying their siblings and then you end up with the Habsburg chin.
