I just learned via a radio trivia game yesterday that Nokia got its start as a paper producer in the late 1800s.

I’m sort of amazed Nokia still exists. How have they survived the death of their own industry for this long? Do they have other divisions keeping them afloat? Do they make benzene in Bulgaria or have diamond concerns in Nigeria? Seems like big companies always have a few dark corners keeping the lights on.

Gradually disappearing?

They didn’t sell their telephone equipment division, that stayed with them when they sold the handset division to Microsoft.

Yeah, while Apple and Samsung now dominate the handset market, Nokia still play a large role in producing the equipment the back-end of the networks run on.

They also own Bell Labs now, which was a surprise to me.

I normally stay on the safe, sane, ethernet-based side of the demarc point; but my understanding is that Nokia still sells a lot of assorted telco stuff; both RF and fiber.

This very post is brought to you by a Verizon-badged Nokia G.984 ONT, come to think of it.

AOLIA? They need a better marketing team.

I didn’t know that they had ended up with Nokia; but I can’t express any surprise that Alcatel-Lucent has apparently been chopped up for parts at this point.

Nokia is the world’s third-largest telecoms equipment manufacturer, measured by 2017 revenues (after Huawei and Cisco). Second biggest company in Finland after Kone [Machine].

New logo kinda looks like a Greek restaurant sign near here.

I bought a few shares of Nokia and Ericsson to see which one will perform and it seems Nokia is still beating Ericsson.

It looks like they are about to drop some bitchin’ Industrial EDM.

The old logo is better. This new one will look dated in no time.

Like you, I don’t care for this lettering style. So, Nokia marketers, if you chop away vital parts of the letters, I’m free to start adding them back - producing ANOXIA.

I thought KIA’s new logo was beyond horrible but now there is a new level of horrible thanks to NOKIA.
