South Korea should respond by ballooning food, medicine and phones into North Korea.

They have been exchanging balloons for a long time.

This. I can’t say who started the latest spat, but the north sending these is not something happening completely out of the blue.

99.99% of N.Koreans know better than to touch anything like that if it lands near them. Almost certainly a capital offence or one that will get you and your family a lifetime of hard labour.

I’m surprised North Korea can spare trash and balloons to fly into the south. Then again, it turned out they could afford for millions of people to starve to death to boost their nuclear weapons programme, so what do I know about national economics.

If it’s not bad enough that some of these balloons contain human waste contaminated with parasites, hiding a few balloons containing biological weapons agents amongst the garbage would make for a deniable enough attack on the South.

Despite China having the ability to shut down North Korea almost entirely, they continue to allow Kim to escalate conflicts with the West for - reasons. And now that Russia has pretty much said ‘fuck it’ to enforcing any sanctions against NK, there is no way to de-escalate a situation where Pyongyang appears to be hellbent on provoking conflict.

Their weapons programmes are in good part funded by exporting drugs, fake currency, slave labour and cyberwarfare including stealing from banks, ransomware and cryptocurrency.

I can’t recommend this BBC World Service podcast enough:

The human waste contaminated with parasites is the biological weapon.

Article 6 of the law (The Principles of Legal Punishment Toward People Who Spread the Puppet Language) sets forth that the State shall treat anyone who imitates or spreads the puppet language [a term referring to the South Korean language] as garbage contaminated with puppet culture and as criminals. Anyone, regardless of the seriousness of the matter, shall face serious legal sanctions, including the death penalty.”

Sounds like a plan concocted by a nasty little 6-y-o brat.

A direct reference and accurate description of the spoiled and nasty little brat who ‘owns’ N.Korea, obviously.

From the south, it’s escalated to K-pop sticks.

The North Korean balloons are a message: if you send us your garbage, we’ll send you ours.
