Not allowed to blather, Trump retreats from demand to make his own closing statement

So Trump is a lawyer now? The defendant doesn’t get to make closing arguments unless they are representing themselves. Unlike what Trump must assume from watching too much TV is that closing arguments aren’t a speech and they aren’t testimony. You can’t present anything not in evidence. You can’t present opinion as fact. You can’t argue points not relevant to the charges. I’d imagine every word out of Trump’s mouth would result in a sustained objection.

Trump never intended to speak. He just wanted it in the news that he was denied the chance to speak at his trial.

He got exactly what he wanted, again. He’s very good at making the media dance to his tune.

That’s something I did not need to visualize. :face_vomiting:

They keep forgetting to put the word “former” in front of “president”, but everyone here already knew that.

I think also it would be nice to nominate some new names for these properties that would annoy the orange one, say, Obama Tower or The Hillary Arms…

Which is nonsense because he already fucking testified at this trial. Despite his every effort to enrage the judge (which is an interesting legal strategy in of itself), he was given a lot of latitude while on the witness stand to say pretty much whatever he wanted. But I guess nobody remembers this?

And then he did it anyway, monologuing for about five minutes about the election, etc.

We remember it just fine, but when he can repeat that the judge denied him the right to speak at the close of his trial he can get his followers outraged and upset and that gets them to give him more money.
They all seem to have not noticed that this whole show is to determine just how much he owes the state of NY and if there will be sanctions on him doing business there in the future. The facts of him committing the fraud were determined to true on the facts. He is already guilty of this crime.

Well it seems like the judge let him speak anyway so there goes that. Although he was just repeating the same damn word salad he’s been saying for the past few months.

It just occurred to me, that if all the Trump properties are as valuable as he says they are, then a 370 million fine is just chicken feed to a rich guy like him.

Yeah, the reporting of the current trial has been infuriatingly obtuse. There was an AP story in the paper yesterday where it was very unclear that he’s already been found guilty and the current case was just about sentencing, and they made it seem like the judge refused him the right to have his say.
And this was an AP article, not an opinion piece.
So frustrating!
