Nothing wrong with quid pro quo? "Perhaps so", says Trump

The GOP and conservatives have certainly become an amen chorus for Il Douche’s Narcissist’s Prayer:

That didn’t happen.

And if it did, it wasn’t that bad.

And if it was, that’s not a big deal.

And if it is, that’s not my fault.

And if it was, I didn’t mean it.

And if I did…

You deserved it.

That stupid Trump-tweet is just floating a defence. It’s not an admission, it’s still a flat denial by Trump. He’s not saying that “perhaps there was a quid pro quo”.

It doesn’t matter what he says in a tweet. It’s clear that there was a quid pro quo, from the actions under his orders.

This just shows they’re scrambling and testing future strategies. The tweet doesn’t contain a useful admission from Trump though.

asked this in the Trumpian events thread…

What stage of the prayer are we in again?

Reminiscent of how he would try different lines during the campaign. If it got applause or chants, he repeated and doubled down on it . If it was ignored or unpopular with his base, he wouldn’t repeat it and would deny that he said it. As somebody pointed out, he is like a bad AI, iteratively tryng variations to come up with an optimum. Natural stupidity imitating artificial intelligence.

On the Ukraine quid pro quo, about halfway through.

Wait, Ben Shapiro is saying, “bad, ugly behaviour is not impeachable”?

First, I hope someone alerts Trump to the fact that Shapiro suggested Trump’s behaviour was bad or ugly and Trump tweets about how Shapiro is a know-nothing hack and Shapiro gets shit-canned by the Trumpists.

Second, up yours it’s not, Shapiro. If the president is bringing the country into disrepute that’s a very serious thing that congress might want to weigh in on.

I think the real question is whether it was a corrupt, criminal, impeachable quid pro quo made by a left-hander on a Tuesday during a leap year while talking on a Samsung phone and wearing a jewel-encrusted tiara with Chuck Mangione’s Feels So Good playing in the background.

And even the most fake-news, anti-Trump lib has to admit that it was not.

So case closed. Move along.

The ultimate destination of these moving goalposts scares the hell out of me.

We’re facing a situation we’ve literally never had before in an administration that literally doesn’t care about leaving any kind of functional government behind, so if/when “he did it, but it’s not impeachable” doesn’t get the traction he wants, it seems that “how dare you talk about impeachment at a time of war!?” would be on the table.

And then what?

The so-called “Sideshow Bob” defense seems to be gaining traction on the Right. (“Attempted quid pro quo?? Now what is that? Do they give out a Nobel Prize for attempted Chemistry?”)

Trump will next say that he was required to do it.

That pretty much sums up trump rallies. His base’s memory is too short or likely just doesn’t care.
I don’t know if robovac AIs are any smarter now, but I imagine they bump around blindly like trump until there is an effect.
I think this is a good representation of the US right now:

Quid pro quo sine qua non. Ad nauseum.
