This is true in multiple ways. During his term, Trump pressured the Fed to keep interest rates low in order to keep goosing the economy - which, pre-COVID was booming because of what Obama had done.
It was argued at the time that modest interest rate increases were instead needed to slow the train down in order to keep it on the rails. Of course Republicans never listen to reason so the post-COVID recession and subsequent inflation was much, much worse than it should have been.
Typical of Republicans to drive the economy into the ditch whenever they are in power then complain bitterly about the tow truck drivers (Dems) who are then tasked with pulling it out. Rinse and Repeat every 4-8 years.

Someone famously said “Trump was born on a moving train and thinks he’s driving it.” (I couldn’t find the origin just now, but it stuck in my head since I first heard it.)
In another example of just how immune to reality conservatives are, I met people who insisted the economy stank right up until Trump took office then it turned around overnight.
