I would in addition posit that this is in part what made Obama acceptable to the general electorate. He doesn’t display many of the traits stereotypically considered “black” in his speech, gestures or mannerisms.

Well, some might argue that’s part of the African-American experience, from earlier descriptions like W.E.B Du Bois’ double-consciousness, to more recent framings like code-switching…
