What is odd to me is this part of the story:

the surface wall collapsed likely because the adjacent building was demolished recently.

In Philly and surrounding areas, developers and home renovation firms have been in the spotlight for damaging common walls and causing complete building collapse incidents. There are license, inspection, and notification regulations in place that are intended to protect neighbors and buildings. Unfortunately, there are too many scofflaws and loopholes to prevent dangerous scenarios like this one from happening. I’m glad this wasn’t worse, even though it is awful for the residents to be displaced at this time of year.

The construction industry in Montreal is known to be a little sketchy at times. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to learn that corners were cut on the demolition or that somewhat less than diligent attention was paid to that remaining wall afterwards.

L&I has been chronically short staffed for decades. So no one inspects a lot of these sites. They don’t pay market rate for staff.

It also doesn’t help that a bunch of L&I employees were found to be taking bribes.

“The two of them were doing something similar to black magic with the materials they had brought with them, such as black dolls, photos of some people, lemons, needles, and turmeric.

One of the workers of the crematorium witnessed the incident and informed the police. After that, the police reached the spot and caught both of them red-handed.

The police are currently investigating the incident. A case has been registered against the accused under section three of the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013.“

If this was a ceremony the deceased wanted - it’s just another religious ceremony.

If it wasn’t- I wouldn’t want it at the grave of a loved one.

I’d be worried by the fact that anesthetics aren’t always a 100% guarantee against waking up. :grimacing:
